How do I use Brave Translate? Follow
Brave browser now offers it's own built-in translation feature for use in the Desktop and Android browser (iOS to be supported in future builds). Brave has partnered with Lingvanex to bring quick, quality and private in-page translation for 108 different languages to the browser.
Note that, as stated in our Privacy Policy, Brave removes IP addresses associated with requests submitted to the translation service and any text submitted is not retained after the request completes.
Using Extensions for Translate
While Brave Translate will be the default translation option, you may still use your desired Translation extension for translation services in the browser. We do recommend looking at the translations privacy policy to stay informed about what these extensions do with your translation data/requests. By default, any currently installed and enabled translation extension will override the built in translation feature. In order to use the Brave Translate feature, you'll need to disable any translation extensions (you can do this in brave://settings/extensions
).
Using Brave Translate
Simply visit any website that contains text in a foreign language and observe the Translate prompt appear in the address bar:
Note that visiting sites with text in a language set as a Preferred Language
(these can be found in brave://settings/languages
) will not display the Translate option. For example, the translation option would not appear when visiting the site in the image above if the German was included in the Preferred
languages
setting:
If you would like the browser to offer you the option to translate pages that display in one of your preferred languages anyway, you can do so by going to brave://settings/languages
, selecting the "more options" menu (three dots icon) for the specific language and checking the Offer to translate
pages in this language
option:
Once prompted, click on the Translate bubble in the address bar to select which language you would like to translate the text into:
In the example above, selecting English will change any text on the site from German to English. You may also select the "More options"/"Translate Menu" to reveal additional options for translating the site. The options are as follows (note that the language used in this example is "German" but will reflect the relevant language):
- Choose Another Language...:
Allows you to select a different language to translate the site into on the fly. - Always Translate German:
Tells the translation feature to always translate pages into german automatically (without the need to select the prompt again). - Never Translate German:
Tells the translation feature to never translate the language the site is displayed in for any site. - Never Translate This Site:
Tells the translation feature to never translate this specific website's text. - Page Is Not in German:
Tells the translation feature that it has detected the wrong language and prompts you to select the correct language the site is displayed in.
You may also translate a page from it's native text to your desired text via the context menu when right-clicking on the page:
