How do I clear Cookies and Site data in Brave on Android? Follow
Cookie Default Settings
There are three different cookie settings, all of which can be controlled via Brave's Shields, or by navigating to Settings --> Site Settings --> Third-party cookies
.
Allow all cookies
, Block third-party cookies in Incognito (Private)
, Block third-party cookies
.
Block third-party cookies
is the default cookie setting. This setting allows sites that use first-party cookies to function — for example, some sites use first party cookies to log into a site — while at the same time, it prevents ads or third party cookies from tracking your browsing activity.
Some sites may break from blocking all cookie content. Therefore in some cases you may need to enable Allow all cookies
. Note that, as it's name implies, Block third-party cookies in Incognito (Private)
is specific to browsing in Private windows.
Clear Cookies and Site Data
- In Brave, open the main menu, then
Settings --> Brave Shields & Privacy
- Note: You can also select
Menu --> History --> Clear browsing data
- Note: You can also select
- Select
Clear browsing data
Here, you can select what type(s) of data you'd like to clear from your browser, as well as the time range in which to clear. Note that once data is cleared, the action cannot be undone, so ensure that you have the correct boxes checked when erasing your data.
Clearing data for specific sites
If you would like to only clear browsing data for a specific site/sites, you can do this by navigating to Settings --> Site Settings --> All sites
:
Here, you can view any site that has saved site data (including cookies) as well as any set permissions in the browser. Tapping on the individual site reveals what data that site has saved as well as what permissions the site has been granted:
You can change any permissions the site has by toggling the options on or off on this page. Additionally, you can delete individual cookies/site data for each site by tapping the "trash" icon next to the relevant data. Alternatively, you can delete all site data and reset permissions for the site by tapping Delete
data & reset permissions
at the bottom of the screen. Note that this option cannot be undone.
Automatically clearing site data
There are also options for users who would like to clear site data automatically (that is, without having to go into settings and use the options discussed above).
Clear data on exit — For users who would like to clear browsing data when they exit the browser, this option can be enabled by going to Settings
--> Brave Shields & Privacy
and toggle the Clear data on exit
option "on".
Note that the data that will be cleared on exit must first be set in the Clear
browsing data
dialog box. Simply check the appropriate boxes of data you want to be cleared when the browser is closed, then exit the menu. Then, for as long as the Clear data on exit
option is toggled on, those data types will be deleted when the browser is closed.
Forget me when I close this site — Enabling this option will tell the browser to clear any data that would normally be saved on a specific website once you close that tab. This is a Shields option and can be enabled on a per-site basis by opening the Shields panel while on the site, tapping Advanced
controls
then toggling the Forget me when I close this site
option "on" (left image below).
Alternatively, this option can be enabled by default, such that it is enabled for all sites until specified otherwise by going to Settings
--> Brave Shields & Privacy
and toggling Forget me when I close this site
"on" (right image below).
