How To Navigate To The Cookies Settings Menu

1. Click on the Menu icon in the top right, and go to Settings
2. Select Additional settings → Privacy and Security → Cookies and other site data

Cookie Default Settings

There are 3 different cookie settings; Allow all cookies, Block third-party cookies, and Block all cookies. Block third-party cookies is the default cookie setting. This allow sites that use cookies to function, for example, some sites use first party cookies to log into a site. At the same time, it prevents ads or third party cookies from tracking your browsing activity.

Some sites may break from blocking all cookie content. Therefore in some cases you may need to enable Allow all cookies. Block all cookies is not recommended, this can cause sites to break.

Controlling Cookies with Shields

The cookie settings you see here are directly related to cookie settings in your global Shield defaults: brave://settings/shields. If you change the cookie settings in either location, they will reflect in the other. This will also be reflected in the cookies settings you see in the Shields panel for a site. However if you alter the cookie settings via the Shields panel, that setting will be adjusted for the receptive site and will not affect cookie settings or global Shield defaults. 

Note: For most users, it is recommended to use Brave Shields settings to control cookie behavior, rather than the internal browser settings discussed in this article. Although both allow you to control cookie behavior, using Shields is easier and more efficient. You can always adjust your Shields settings for any particular site via the Shields panel, or set your global Shields settings for all sites in Settings --> Shields.

Clear Cookies And Site Data When You Quit Brave

Do Not Track

Enabling Do Not Track means that a request will be included with your browsing traffic, requesting that websites to collect or track your browsing data. Results depend on whether a website responds to the request, and how the request is interpreted. For example, some websites may respond to this request by showing you ads that aren't based on other websites you've visited. Many websites will still collect and use your browsing data.

Preload Pages

Pre-fetches information from pages, including pages that you have not yet visited. Information fetched may include cookies, if you allow cookies.

View All Cookies and Site Data in Brave

Clicking on See all cookies and site data will take you to a list of all sites that have cookies and data. You either click Remove All or use the trash can icon to remove individual sites. Clicking on the arrow will give a break down and more information about the cookies.

List Of All Sites That Block, Allow Or Clear Cookies

At the bottom of the cookies settings page, you will see three lists:

• Sites that can always use cookies
• Always clear cookies when windows are closed
• Sites that can never use cookies

These cookie settings are only related to the respective site. And override the default cookie settings from above.

To add a site to a list, click Add, enter the URL and click Add once more. If you alter the cookie settings via the Shields panel, the site will also appear one of these lists. When you remove sites from the list, their cookie settings will be reset to default. Sites that have Shields down, will also appear on the list of sites that can use cookies. However to be remove from the list, the site needs to be visited, and Shields toggled on. For the list Always clear cookies when windows are closed, all entries need to be manually entered as mentioned above.
