How do I set up Sync? Follow
Note: This article only covers how to setup Brave Sync on your devices. Please see our other articles on Sync for more detailed information on Sync and Sync behavior:
Important: Only enable Sync on devices you own or control access to.
Create Sync Chain (Desktop)
When a Sync "chain" is created, any device that is on that chain will be synchronized and share the same data, such as bookmarks, open tabs, browsing history and more. To start using Brave Sync:
Menu → Brave Sync.
Start a new sync chain.
- Choose your other mobile device (Phone/Tablet) or Computer to begin the Sync chain.
Sync Your Data - Desktop to Mobile
When Syncing your desktop browser with mobile devices, you will be presented with a Sync Code in the form of a QR code that you can scan with your mobile device camera to begin the Sync chain. You may also enter the Sync code manually.
- Open Brave Browser on your mobile device and go to
Settings → Sync.
Scan or enter your sync code.
- Once you scan the
Sync Code, please wait as we connect your devices via
Sync Chain. Select 'OK' or the ‘X’ close button. You will be taken back to the main Brave Sync page with your devices in the sync chain listed.
Sync Your Data - Desktop to Desktop
If selecting another desktop computer, you will be presented with a 24 word "Sync Code". Enter this code into your second computer to add it to the Sync chain. This 24 word code is unique to your Sync Chain, please keep it private.
- Enter the word code into your second computer to begin the
- Go to your other Computer and select
Menu → Brave Sync.
- In your second computer, this time select
Enter a sync chain code.
- Enter your
Sync Chain codein to your second computer.
Once you enter the Sync Chain Code, please wait as we connect your devices via Sync Chain. Select ok or the ‘X’ close button. You will be taken back to the main Brave Sync page with your devices in the sync chain listed:
Brave Sync now allows you to sync multiple different data types across your devices (where applicable). When Sync runs, any of the available items toggled "on" will be synchronized across devices. If a datatype is toggled "off", that device will not send or receive updates for that data. Syncable data includes:
- Autofill Data
- Open Tabs
Sync Data from your Mobile Device
Sync Android Data
To start a Sync Chain from Brave Browser on your Android Device:
- Open the Main menu, go to
Settings → Syncin the Advanced section.
Start a new sync chainto add a new mobile device or a computer to the newly created Chain. You will be presented with a QR code to scan if you are adding a mobile device, or a word code if adding a computer.
3. Once you enter the Sync Chain Code, please wait as we connect your devices via Sync Chain.
Select 'OK' or the ‘X’ close button. You will be returned to the main Brave Sync page with your devices in the sync chain listed.
On the main Sync page, you should see the
Remove this device options:
Add another deviceallows you to add another mobile or desktop device to the Sync chain and you can use.
Remove this deviceallows you to remove the device in use from the active Sync chain.
Categoriesallows you to select individual data types to be Synced.
Note: At this time, iOS Sync only Syncs bookmark data. We are working to include all data types in Sync as soon as possible.
To start a Sync Chain from Brave Browser on your iOS device:
- Open the Menu, go to
Settings → Other Settings → Sync.
Start a new Sync Chainto add a new mobile device or computer to the newly created Chain.
- You will be shown a QR code to scan when adding mobile devices, or a word code when adding a computer.
- Once you enter the Sync Chain Code, please wait as we connect your devices via Sync Chain. Select 'OK' or the ‘X’ close button. You will be returned to the main Brave Sync page with your devices in the sync chain listed.
As you add, remove or make changes to your data on devices that are on the same Sync chain, these changes will be reflected across all other devices on that same chain when a Sync update is called. This process happens automatically and at regular (frequent) intervals.
Note that users who have a lot of browsing data (ex. 1000+ bookmarks) may experience a short delay before new data is displayed properly. Please be patient as it can sometimes take a moment to Sync large amounts of data in this way.
To Reset your Sync Chain
Leave Sync Chain button at the bottom of the page:
Removing a device from the Sync chain will stop any data from syncing to or from that device. Your local data will be retained but all the data in the Brave’s Sync cache will be deleted.
To Delete Sync Chain
Delete Sync account at the bottom of the page will remove all devices from the chain and delete any data on the server itself.
