How do I successfully migrate from Brave Payments to Brave Rewards? Follow
Brave Rewards replaces Brave Payments. With this change, any sites pinned in your Brave Payments Auto-Contribute table will automatically be converted into “Recurring Tips” in Brave rewards once your wallet information has been imported.
Note: In order to fully migrate Brave Payments information into the new Brave Rewards system, you must have Brave Payments enabled in the Muon build before you begin the upgrade process. Read the FAQ at the bottom of this articles for commonly asked questions surrounding the switch from Brave Payments (Muon) to Brave Rewards (Core).
What happens to my wallet and payments information?
We have implemented checks to ensure this data is secure and remains untouched. However, it's recommended that you back-up your wallet information as an extra protective measure.
To backup your Wallet in Brave (Muon):
- Launch Brave (Old)
- Open the Main Menu
- Navigate to Preferences --> Payments
- Select Settings
--> Backup your Wallet
Why didn’t my pinned sites transfer over to Brave Rewards?
Sites may not have imported into Brave Rewards if you didn’t have Brave Payments enabled before importing your data. If you do go through with the import while Payments is disabled, you can still transfer the data using one of the following methods:
- Backing up your Payments Wallet (Muon) and restoring it in Rewards
- Import it into Brave Core by following these instructions for importing data from other browsers
- Uninstalling Brave Core and removing associated profile data - then initiating the upgrade process from Muon
Remember that since Payments Auto-contribute table will be converted into Recurring tips. Your Rewards Auto-Contribute will be empty after import and will populate as you start browsing and sites start to accrue attention.
Why do I see some sites that I had excluded from Brave Payments appearing in Rewards?
During the migration process, Brave core pulls all site data from your ledger_state file when importing Payments data. Because of this, sites that were excluded in Payments may not be excluded in Brave Rewards. The sites can be excluded again by:
- Removing them from your Auto-contribute table (click the ‘X’ next to the domain to be removed)
- Visiting the site you wish to remove, clicking the Rewards icon in the Address bar, and toggle the Auto-Contribute option to “Off”.
Why I can’t remove sites from the new Contribution table in Brave Rewards? Clicking the ‘X’ has no effect!
We have an unresolved issue surrounding the Brave Rewards Auto-contribution table, where attempting to remove sites from the table may fail or produce strange contribution percentages. We are working hard to get issues like these resolved as soon as possible. Their progress is captured and can be tracked here:

Why is my Monthly Budget different than it was in Payments?
The conversion from your Brave Payments budget and your Rewards budget may be different since Recurring Tips are stored and withdrawn separately. When imported, your Rewards budget is determined by:
Rewards Budget = Budget from Muon - Sum of Recurring Tips
Note: If the new Rewards budget contains less than 10 BAT, Auto-contribute will be initially set to “Off”.
How are Recurring Tips calculated when imported into Brave Core?
Recurring tips are determined by:
Recurring Tips = Payments Budget (Muon) X Percentage of Pinned site (Muon)
The result is rounded down to nearest whole integer.
