How do I use Brave Leo [Android]? Follow
Leo is Brave Browser's AI assistant, capable of performing or assisting with a variety of different tasks. Leo can create real-time summaries of webpages or videos, answer questions about content or generate new content, translate pages, write a poem or even just have a casual conversation with you.
As a privacy-first company, Brave is dedicated to releasing leading alternatives to popular Web tools that also protect user data and anonymity. Leo is no different:
- Reverse proxy: All requests are proxied through an anonymized server so the request and user-address cannot be linked. Brave cannot associate the user request with their IP address.
- Immediate discarding of responses: Conversations are not persisted on Brave’s servers. Responses from Leo are discarded immediately after they’re generated, and not used for model training. We do not collect identifiers such as your IP Address that can be linked to you. No personal data is retained by the AI model or any 3rd-party model providers.
- No login or account required for access: Users do not need to create a Brave account to use Leo.
- Unlinkable subscription: If you sign up for Leo Premium, you’re issued unlinkable tokens that validate your subscription when using Leo. This means that Brave can never connect your purchase details with your usage of the product, an extra step that ensures your activity is private to you and only you. The email you used to create your account is unlinkable to your day-to-day use of Leo, making this a uniquely private credentialing experience.
Leo combines this easy, free access to AI with the privacy focus of Brave. Chats with Leo are private, anonymous, and secure. Leo doesn’t record chats, or use them for model training, and no account or login is required to use Leo.
What is Leo Premium?
What is Leo Premium?
The Brave Leo experience is free to all users. For those who’d like access to higher rate limits, however, Leo is also available as a Premium experience. Users can subscribe to Leo Premium for $14.99/month, and one subscription covers up to 5 different devices across Android, Linux, macOS, and Windows. Users log into their Brave account from their other devices with that subscription.
How do I use Brave Leo on Android?
Leo is built directly into the browser — no extra apps or extensions are required to use it. Leo can be accessed by tapping in the address bar and selecting "Ask Leo" in the address bar when typing a query (note that this can be disabled by going to Settings --> Leo
):
You can also access Leo by tapping " Leo" in the Main menu:
Both options will open the Leo chat dialog box, where Leo will respond to prompts entered in the address bar, and where you can enter prompts for Leo to respond to. Simply type your question or prompt into the text box at the bottom of the screen and tap the "send" button and Leo will respond:

What is the difference between each language model?
Leo allows you to swap between different language models. Each model functions the same way, but can vary in type and quality of response depending on the task it's been given. A loose explanation of each model is as follows:
Llama2 13b
This model is typically well suited for in-depth discussion on a variety of topics, due to their ability understand complex language and have detailed conversations. Example questions/prompts suited for (but not limited to) these models:
- Who is the CEO of Microsoft?
- Can you explain the concept of artificial intelligence?
- Can you summarize the main points of the article you read?
- Tell me a fun fact
Claude Instant
The Claude Instant model, while having all the same capabilities of the other two models, leans further into a causal back-and-fourth type of conversation, almost like chatting with a friend. This is due to Claude's focus on natural dialog, allowing you to ask have even more nuanced conversations, such as discussing your day, planning an event together, getting movie recommendations — anything where responses need to flow like a real conversation.
Example questions/prompts suited for (but not limited to) this model:
- What are some creative ideas for a birthday present?
- How can I make my website more user friendly?
- Pretend you are Gordon Ramsey and rate my cookies
- Write me a short poem about Taylor Swift
