How do I migrate my Brave "Dev" data to another channel (Nightly, Beta, Release)? Follow
Brave will no longer support or update the "Dev" channel version of the browser. This means that users that are on Dev channel will no longer receive browser updates. We highly recommend users migrate from Dev channel to Nightly, Beta or Stable versions of Brave.
How do I migrate my data from "Dev" to another version?
For users who wish to keep their browser data contained in the Dev channel, we recommend using Brave Sync to migrate that data to a different channel. This method is the quickest and most efficient way to move all relevant browsing data between channels. To Sync data from Dev channel to another version:
- If you have not already done it, please download and install the version of Brave you'd like to migrate to (Brave Stable, Brave Beta or Brave Nightly).
- Once installed (or if it was already installed), please launch the version you'd like to migrate to and go to
Settings --> Sync
and selectStart a new Sync chain
(if you already have a Sync chain created in this version, simply skip this part). Once created, selectView Sync code
to display your Sync code on the screen. - Launch Brave Dev on your machine and go to
Settings --> Sync
and selectSelect I have a Sync code
- Copy/paste or type in the code words displayed from step 2 into the box and click
Confirm
- You have now Synced both versions of the browser and data from Dev channel should Sync to the new version you're migrating to (note that you may need to relaunch both browsers if the data isn't Syncing right away).
- Once you've confirmed that your data has been successfully migrated, return to the Dev version, go to
Settings --> Sync --> Managed Synced devices
and selectLeave Sync chain
at the bottom of the screen.
Uninstalling Dev channel
Please refer to our article "How do I uninstall Brave?" to see how to remove the Dev version from your machine. Note that once you've uninstalled this version and deleted any data contained within, there is no way to get it back so be sure you've successfully migrated anything important before uninstalling.
